The way of Jesus calls for us to welcome the children

To the Editor:
I write in full support of Mayor Stephanie Miner as well as my brother in faith, Bishop Robert Cunningham, welcoming the children of Central America who come to us in need of temporary housing. The way of Jesus calls for no less.

I serve as a trustee of an organization in El Salvador called Cristosal. We are a faith-based human rights organization in service of all God's people. Although the issues have been wrapped up in the complex issues of immigration, I have discovered that the children are more accurately described as refugees. They flee the gang violence structure and weapons exported to them from the USA. The issue is not whether we support local folks in need or people from other lands. We do both, as many people of many faith traditions do so wonderfully in Central New York.
