JAPAN RELIEF
ST. JAMES CRANE FOLDING
A Message from our Sunday School Director - March 2011
Hello, everyone!
Whenever there is a world tragedy, it is natural to feel the desire to help in some way, however small, but we often don't know how to help. In response to the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis in Japan, St. James is sending $1000 to Mercy Corps to support the relief effort. We want to help even more! To raise money, we will be attempting to fold 1000 paper cranes and selling them for donations.
Thank you, and please continue to keep those affected by this disaster in your prayers.
Many Blessings,
Jenny Fuller

At the May 1 fundraiser, we raised $160 and folded more cranes. We welcomed visitors from New Hartford, and those who stopped by as they were taking a Sunday stroll through the village on a sunny day.

April 10, 2011
At the April 10 fundraiser, we raised $640 and folded about 160 cranes. To date, St James has folded more than 2100 origami cranes, well exceeding our original goal of 1000 cranes. We raised $270 previously. These funds will be sent to Mercy Corps in addition to the $1000 already sent by our Outreach leadership groups.

Successful Folding

I thought I'd let you know how the crane folding event went on Sunday. I was amazed at our turnout! It was hard to say how many people were there total, since people came and went like a big revolving door, but there were always about 15 people there at any given time. I lost count of the crane total a while ago, and we're planning on counting them again, but it is well into the 400s, maybe 500. Some people took paper home to make more. We've been stringing 5 cranes together with a prayer and they look very nice.
There's a bunch already in the church hall, if you'd like to see them. Among the people there Sunday to fold cranes and people who were just around for other reasons, there was a TON of interest in buying cranes, especially the strings of 5. They wanted to know when and where we'd be selling them, and I told them that we'd have a sale April 10th. That way, there's still another week for people to make more. Since many of the people who came on Sunday were people who seldom go to church here or go to other churches, they hoped that we would advertise the sale.
