About our Rector
The Rev. Dr. Joanna Benskin began serving at St. James' Episcopal Church, Clinton NY, in July of 2023. Joanna is a parish priest who especially enjoys building community and nourishing spiritual formation. She is called to hold holy spaces where people can help each other know God's love.
Before coming to serve at St. James', Joanna served as a curate for two parishes in the Diocese of Indianapolis concurrently: St. Paul's, Evansville and St. Stephen's, New Harmony. She holds an MDiv from Church Divinity School of the Pacific (2021) and a PhD in Comparative Literature from Purdue University (2016). During her studies at Purdue, she taught introductory composition and world literature.
Joanna is married to Brian Koczan, a math teacher turned musician. Joanna and Brian live in the rectory with their two cats. Outside of parish ministry, Joanna enjoys getting outdoors, making and eating tasty food, reading, and tabletop gaming (including D&D).
